NATURAL PARK OF THE SICKLES OF THE RIVER DURATON

Natural park of the sickles of the river Duratón – Sepúlveda (35 kms of the mill) in the medieval town of Sepulveda. You will find the natural park of the sickles of the river Duraton. Where the river passes between impressive large thick walls that in some occasions can reach up to 100 m. It has a great diversity of animals and plants, especially around the area of “la ermita de San Frutos”.The main species that is represented here is griffon vultures; these birds can have a wind span of 2.5m wide. The vultures with their majestic flight and their cavities in the walls are easily spotted by the white stains made by the excrements of the birds.


THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF TIERMES


The archaeological site of Tiermes (30 km from de mill).
The remains of this Celtiberian and Roman deposit ,also called “ The Spanish Pompeii “in Montejo de Tiermes ,Soria Castilla y leon . In July and August there are guided tours to the site, the tour takes one and a half hours, you must consult times and days in the museum. (975.35.20.51).
The tour by yourself takes two hours and it is a normal walk without difficulties. You can have access by car to the area as far as the hermitage, and then you must continue on walking..

RIAZA- RIOFRIO - THE FOREST OF THE BREECH TREE IN LA PEDROSA - THE MOUNTAIN PASSES OF LA QUESERA

13 kms from the Mill. From the mountains of Riaza you go up towards Riofrio de Riaza and to the mountain passage of la Pedrosa. There you will find the most southern breech forest in Europe, it still maintains its splendor and bit by bit it regenerates its self. Ascending 500 m. on the slopes we reach de source or headwater of the Riaza river.
Inside the forest you will find centenarian trees, twisted and full of moss that in the fall shows all its coloration. Crossing over the forest we get to the mountain passage of la Quesera 1.750 m. high that joins the provinces of Segovia and Guadalajara.
From here you can contemplate an unforgettable view .If you look towards Segovia, and Guadalajara you will see the deepest part of the valley, the dam of Riofrio, and other towns of the region .If you look towards the province of Guadalajara you will see a valley full of pine trees. From the Mountain passage of La Quesera you have interesting trails to hike, following the mountain range towards El Pico del Cobo or La Ermita de Hontanares.
